Yellow Fever Vaccine Now Available at Boone Drug

Overseas travelers have local access to the Yellow Fever Vaccine

Boone, NC: Boone Drug at Deerfield, located at 345 Deerfield Rd, Boone, NC, is now listed with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a Yellow Fever Vaccination Center. Boone Drug Pharmacist, Emily Miller, PharmD, has worked diligently with providers and government organizations to bring this service to Watauga County and surrounding areas.

"This service will be a tremendous help to traveling patients in the community in need of this vaccine, which can be challenging to find in our region of the state." says Boone Drug Vice President, Spencer Hodges.

According to the CDC website, Yellow Fever is a serious disease caused by the yellow fever virus. Most people infected with yellow fever virus do not get sick or have only mild symptoms. About 12% of people who have symptoms go on to develop serious illness: jaundice, bleeding, shock, organ failure, and sometimes death. Yellow fever virus is spread by mosquitoes. Yellow fever virus, and the mosquitoes that spread the virus, are found in certain parts of South America and Africa. Travelers going to these places are at risk of infection with the virus. When planning a trip, check to see if yellow fever vaccine is recommended or required for your destination.

Boone Drug at Deerfield is the only site within 30 miles of the 28607 zip code offering this vaccine, according to the CDC website. The Yellow Fever vaccine will be offered at Boone Drug at Deerfield by appointment only, on Thursdays from 9 am until 4:30 pm. It is required that an individual receive the vaccine at least 10 days before departure but 30 days or more is recommended. Those interested in getting the vaccine will need to have a complete travel evaluation and consultation with by their Primary Care Provider or another healthcare provider.

Boone Drugs, Inc. Announces Partnership with MakoRx to provide Clinical Testing and Treatment

(Many Boone Drug locations now offer on-site testing and treatment for many common conditions)

From the beginning of the pandemic, Boone Drug has worked to adapt and provide innovative services to the communities of patients which they serve. Originally COVID-19 testing was a major need and scarce resource and Boone Drug stepped in to assist with those efforts. Today, patients are looking for testing and treatment options that are fast, affordable, and convenient for many other illnesses. Boone Drug is partnering with MakoRx Care Connect to fill this need.

"Fast and reliable service, with the ability to meet the patient's need in one location is very important to us here at Boone Drug and this service allows us to do that." says Pharmacist George Fox.

Here is what you need to know. Visit Boonedrug.com and click the clinical testing button located on the home page. Choose the test and book an appointment. Come to the pharmacy at the scheduled time. Once you have arrived, utilize the drive through window, if available, or call the store and speak with a staff member. You will then be tested, consult with a medical provider online, and be able to pick up medication for treatment if one is prescribed. Tests currently offered include Flu A/B and Strep A testing with a doctor consultation. In the coming weeks, services will expand to include COVID-19 and urinary tract infection (UTI) testing. Boone Drug locations now offering MakoRx Testing and Treatment are Crossnore, East Burke, Halsey, King Street, Medical Arts, New Market, and Warrensville. Boone Drugs Inc. Announces Free Vitamin Program

Free multiple vitamins are available at every Boone Drug location

Boone, NC: Area residents are encouraged to visit their local Boone Drug location and register to receive free vitamins for every member of their household. A 30-day supply of Good Neighbor Pharmacy Complete Multivitamins for children, adults, seniors and pre-natal customers, are available free of charge from the only locally owned and independent drug store in the area. Your neighborhood Boone Drug pharmacist can assist you in getting started with this free program. While it does seem too good to be true, there is never a cost to the customer and insurance is not required.

Here is what you need to know. Visit any of the Boone Drug locations and request to participate in the Free Vitamin Program.
